ADHD ASSESSMENTS

ADHD Assessments for Adults (Aged 18+)

If you think you might have ADHD, or someone has suggested it, please reach out. I am professionally trained by UKAAN (The UK Adult ADHD Network) to assess and diagnose ADHD. The process is friendly and supportive and will follow this approach:
Step 1, Clinical Assessment:

I will carry out a detailed clinical interview - either in-person or via Zoom - to review your developmental history, current challenges, and strengths. Together we will discuss how your experiences affect various areas of your life, including work, relationships, and daily routines.

The DIVA-5 assessment will be used for the interview - a well-recognised diagnostic tool to assess ADHD in adults. The assessment diagnosis will subsequently be based on DSM-5 criteria, in line with NICE guidelines, which recommend the assessments adhere to specific standards (more info on DSM-5 here).

With your consent, and wherever possible and appropriate, I may consult with people who know you well, such as family members, to help inform the assessment process.

The assessment will take approximately 90-100 minutes. We can approach it in one of two ways, depending on your preference:

  • One 90-100 minute session (with a 10-minute break in the middle).
  • Or two 45–50 minute sessions on separate days.

Step 2, Clinical Decision:

After the assessment, all the gathered information will be reviewed, and a diagnostic decision will be made in accordance with DSM-5 criteria. I will then schedule a time to discuss the diagnosis with you by phone or Zoom, and if you are diagnosed with ADHD I will provide recommendations for treatment and/or support interventions, such as:

  • Therapy
  • Referral to a Psychiatrist for medication
  • Workplace/Education: The report can be used to request "reasonable adjustments" or accommodations in academic or professional settings. This might include extended time for tasks, a quieter workspace, or specific organisational tools. It can also help with Special Educational needs support or Disabled Students’ Allowances.
  • Disability Support: In some cases, a formal diagnosis can open doors to disability support services, particularly if the ADHD significantly impacts daily functioning.
  • Communication with others: The report provides a clear, professional document to share with family, friends, or partners, helping them understand your experiences and how to best support you. This can reduce misunderstandings and improve relationships.
  • Ruling out other conditions (Differential Diagnosis): A thorough assessment will evaluate for and rule out other conditions that can mimic ADHD symptoms, such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, or learning disabilities. This ensures that any treatment plan is targeted and effective. Sometimes ADHD co-occurs with other mental health conditions, and the report will identify these comorbidities, leading to a more comprehensive treatment approach.

Step 3, Report:

You will receive a comprehensive report within seven working days after our diagnosis call, regardless of whether you have been clinically diagnosed with ADHD.

FAQs

What is the fee for the ADHD assessment?
I currently charge £850 for the assessment, report and recommendations. There is no VAT because Psychologists are exempt.

Will my private health insurance cover the cost for the assessment?
If you have private health insurance I recommend checking your level of cover. I work with all major insurers, and if you are fully or partially covered I may be able to invoice them directly.

Do you offer ADHD medication?
As a Psychologist, I don’t prescribe medication; however I work closely with private Psychiatrists and can refer you to one after the assessment to discuss ADHD medication options.

What is your payment policy?
Sessions are confirmed only once payment is received, and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

What is your cancellation policy:
If the assessment is cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice, a refund will be issued minus a £250 cancellation fee. If it is rescheduled with less than 48 hours’ notice, an additional £150 fee will apply, payable at least 48 hours before the new session time.

What if I’m not diagnosed with ADHD?
Even if the assessment concludes that you do not meet the criteria for ADHD, the process is still valuable. A comprehensive assessment provides a clear understanding of your strengths and challenges, and the written report can help rule out ADHD while highlighting other factors that may be affecting your focus, mood, or daily life. On the subsequent phone or Zoom call we can discuss the most appropriate support, strategies, or treatments moving forward.
