Hello, I'm Dr Mona Michels
I'm a warm, friendly, and highly experienced Counselling Psychologist in NW London and Hertfordshire.
Today’s hectic world can weigh us down with stresses, strains and anxiety – whether it’s family issues, workplace difficulties, ill-health or a myriad of other problems - it can often be hard to cope. I help adults of all ages (18+) to get through those tough times, and equip them to face and effectively manage those issues in the future. I also treat more specific, and long term conditions such as those listed below.
I usually offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), either in English or French. CBT is a proven, popular, and well respected method of modern therapy. In some situations I offer more generalised, integrative therapy instead.

My Background
I have been counselling full time for over 15 years.
I have a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology from London City University, a Masters in Clinical Psychology from Bangor University, and a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Kent University.
I spent a number of years working at the renowned Priory Hospital in Southgate, as well as providing therapy in Central London for HCA Group (owners of the Wellington, Lister, Portland and Princess Grace Hospitals), and employees of many blue chip companies. I still consult at HCA alongside my private practice.

What Exactly Is CBT?
CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) is widely practised by psychologists around the world.
From the Royal College Of Psychiatrists:
"Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a psychological treatment, a “talking therapy”. It aims to help you understand how your problems began and what keeps them going. CBT works by helping you to link the way that you think (your thoughts, beliefs and assumptions), with how you feel (your emotions) and what you do (your behaviour). The therapist will help you understand your problems and help you discover ways of dealing with them."
I'd recommend watching the short video on my homepage to get an overview.
And here's a more detailed leaflet from the British Association For Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP):
